Our existence in our digital form is our weakest. Even if the colors are more vibrant –– the dopamine more potent –– and the access to people more immediate –– it remains unable to fulfill the needs of the soul.
Your online presence, while not meaningless, is noticeable to few beyond yourself in the physical world. No different to the design on the lining of your jacket. A logo on the sole of your shoe. An engraved image on the inside of your ring.
A desire one may have to wear those on the outside, could be seen as a desire for a shortcut to connection. To be perceived through a self curated collection of imagery instead –– to dilute the weight placed on the person you choose to act as.
This is neither sin nor condemnable, but many will find that nothing will feel as potent as the way someone reacts to your actions in the physical world. We all know this. We yearn for community.
But for now. We remain as signals traveling through wires.
